"A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities,
An optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties."
- Vice Admiral Mansell, R.N

Adult life is a very challenging transition. People are given certain tools by their parents, friends, teachers and other forces in their environment. The effective utilization of these tools as we grow and change allows us to gain new tools and new skills to find our way through life. To view our environment as a place rich in resources is to see a world of opportunities and chances for happiness and advancement. If the world is a stressful, hostile place then growth and contentment are more difficult. The community is supposed to be a part of the individual. Gaining a toe hold into a successful adult life depends on our ability to negotiate our emotional landscape and look for opportunities to help us solve our difficulties.
